Celebrating Our First 25 Years

Twenty-five seasons, more than 140 productions, hundreds of actors, designers and directors, dozens of trustees, countless contributors, and thousands upon thousands of theatergoers, have collaborated to bring the Oldcastle Theatre Company to our twenty-fifth season.

It has been a long and winding road. There have been numerous potholes and the road continues to be under construction. This season will be particular challenging as the cost of presenting theatre continues to rise. Actors' salaries, sets, costumes, rent and other faculty costs have increased, some significantly. Funding for the arts continues to be under assault in Washington and now, sadly, even in Montpelier. Our audiences are increasing so we remain optimistic . But the simple reality is that producing theatre is getting ever more difficult.

We are convinced it continues to be worth it. There are those special moments that can only happen between live actors speaking directly to a live audience. Theatre is alive! We hope that you will share your thoughts and feelings with us. What do you like? What touches you? We want your theatre-going experiences to be as rich as possible. This season we are proud to present the work of two acclaimed area playwrights: Vermont's David Budbill with the return of the greatly expanded JUDEVINE, and the Berkshire's Joan Ackerman with her new play OFF THE MAP. In addition, we will present plays by three of the most talked about current American playwrights: Paul Rudnick, Ken Ludwig, and Jerry Sterner. Our hope is that you will attend often and let us know your impressions.

We have learned a great deal in the past 25 years. We look forward to the lessons of the next 25!
