The T om Longtin Homepage
TOM LONGTIN
Majored in mechanical engineering and computer science specializing in computer graphics under Professors Chuck Csuri and Chris Yessios at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Most recently created cover images for "Gear Technology" (Jan./Feb. '96) and "Power Transmission Design" (March '96) trade journals. Also supplied images for American Gear Manufacturers Association's "News Digest" (Jul./Aug. '95) and for LNP Engineering Plastics' brochure. More than one year at Boston University's Office of Information Technology Computer Graphics Lab. Wrote several utility programs including image conversions among different file formats but was mostly involved in conducting tutorials using Wavefront's Advanced Visualizer on Silicon Graphics workstations. Worked in collaboration with artist/sculptor Brower Hatcher of Lake George, NY to create computer-aided-designs of his wireframe sculptures. For this I developed several programs using the facilities of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Engineering Computing Services and their MicroVAX GPX workstations. Six months as a freelance programmer at The Fantastic Animation Machine in Manhattan. Modeled several Olympic buildings for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Created several data generation programs for Fantastic's software library. Three months at New York Institute of Technology on Long Island as a 3D graphics programmer. Created modeling software for N.Y.I.T.'s "Strawberry Fields", animation. Nine months at Computer Animation Laboratory in Frankfurt, Germany primarily developing software in 'C' under UNIX. Secondarily, I was involved as an animator in the production effort when new software needed to be designed and it was more effective for me to implement programs I was developing. In general, my efforts were directed towards data generation and manipulation and motion control. Two and one-half years at Cranston/Csuri Productions, Columbus, Ohio. My position there was somewhat similiar to that at Computer Animation Lab, which was writing software in support of our animators. This included data generation/manipulation and motion control programs. Two years part-time for the Department of Engineering Mechanics at The Ohio State University writing display and analysis programs for finite-element data. This was in a VAX-750 VMS environment programming in Fortran and using Tektronix 4014 vector displays. The following details awards received for animations I created or was involved in creating.
